Filing County Determination

In Washington there are 39 Counties

• Each county becomes a district for a court to oversee cases that have been brought in front of them.
• Legally a the parties in a case should be filing in the county of their residence or where they have fled from for security reasons.
  * This rule is not always strictly enforced by the courts.

• King County is the largest county and because of that, they have two sub-locations.
  • These are broken down into Kent and Seattle.
  • This is done by zip codes to the addresses provided by the party.

• Sub-Location at this time only applies to King County.
• You will see sometimes Sub-Locations referred to as Designations.
