Question

What happens to the property acquired during the marriage?

Answer

ENGLISH

Hi! My name is Dr. Deirdre Bowen. I am a professor at the Seattle University School of Law. The information that I am about to provide to you should be taken as just that: information and not legal advice. Another question that people frequently have is what happens if you get divorced to the property acquired during a marriage. In Washington state, we’re known as a community pro[erty state, which means that in general your assets acquired during a marriage, with some exceptions, as well as your debts are split 50/50. The good news, however, that you and your spouse can come to an agreement which seems fair to both of you as to how to split your assets prior to even going to court.

Hola, mi nombre es Dra. Diedra Bowen.
