HOW IT WORKS

You can consult an advocate or pro bono (free) lawyer to get guidance. These resources are typically paid for by the government and can help you review your case documents and talk to you directly to discuss your case and safety planning.
4. File with the Clerk
You can formally begin the case by filing with your local court. You will be informed about which specific court you need to file at as it’s important to go to one that has jurisdiction over your case. You can file by printing and visiting the clerk’s office (In future, we plan to offer e-filing to submit documents with a single click).
FAMILY
Paternity
A paternity case in Indiana is a legal action to determine or confirm a child’s legal father so the child, mother, or father can benefit. It helps the child get child support and custody rights (like time with both parents) and can let the father seek parenting time or decision-making. There is usually a court filing fee (about $150–$200) to start the case. The process and rights are governed by Indiana law such as IC 31-14 (establishing paternity procedures) and rules on custody and support under the Indiana Child Support Guidelines.

It resolves property division, child custody, and spousal maintenance. Filing fees range from $150–$300, with possible service and other court costs. Governed by Indiana Code Title 31 and Indiana Small Claims/Family Court Rules.
