Question:

How child custody works?

Answer:

English

Hi! My name is Dr. Deirdre Bowen. I am a professor at the Seattle University School of Law. The information that I am about to provide to you should be taken as just that: information and not legal advice.  People who end their relationship, either marriage or domestic partnership, with children, often are curious as to how the custody of their children will be sorted out. Washington state is known as a presumed joint custody state, which means that you and your partner will share residential time meaning how often your children with you vs your spouse,  as well as shared decision making over major decisions like education and health. However, you and your spouse can come up with an agreement which seem reasonable to both of you prior to going to court.

Hola, mi nombre es Dra. Diedra Bowen.
