LegalAtoms now supports Restraining Orders in California

LegalAtoms now supports restraining orders in California and meets the needs of all users: clients, court and law enforcement in two languages: English and Spanish.  LegalAtoms thus offers a pathway for courts to comply with California Bill 887 (2021)  that requires courts to allow restraining orders to be prepared and filed online.
There are six restraining order types in California
  • Domestic Violence Restraining Order (DVRO)
  • Civil Harassment Restraining Order (CHRO)
  • Gun Violence Restraining Order (GVRO)
  • Elder/Disabled Abuse Restraining Order
  • Private Postsecondary School Violence Prevention Restraining Order
  • Workplace Violence Restraining Order.

LegalAtoms complies with the specific requirements of each of the 58 counties in California. Californians will benefit from having an online solution to preparing and e-filing their petitions for restraining orders along with the required set of forms. This will be particularly helpful for Domestic Violence as the forms can be very detailed particularly with protections for minors involved.

California is an excellent destination to test the promise of online solution as its the most populous state of 38 million . Furthermore 28% of Californians are Spanish speaking and the need for online Spanish solution is even greater, as Spanish speaking victims can explore their legal options without having to worry about their immigration status. Generally non-English speaking constituents are in greater need for a solution.

LegalAtoms integrates with existing Case Management Systems used by the courts. Further LegalAtoms offers E-service which is compliant with California laws but not really utilized today. E-service can bring tremendous efficiencies to courts as all the delays caused by inability to serve in person can be drastically reduced.
