Filing County Determination
Recently updated on December 22nd, 2025 at 10:38 am
In Washington there are 39 Counties
- Each county becomes a district for a court to oversee cases that have been brought in front of them.
- Legally a the parties in a case should be filing in the county of their residence or where they have fled from for security reasons.
* This rule is not always strictly enforced by the courts.
Sub Locations and Filing
- King County is the largest county and because of that, they have two sub-locations.
- These are broken down into Kent and Seattle.
- This is done by zip codes to the addresses provided by the party.
- Sub-Location at this time only applies to King County.
- You will see sometimes Sub-Locations referred to as Designations.
