Create Case by Uploading a Set of PDF files
In LegalAtoms there’s a way to create a case by uploading a set of PDF files.
Behind the scenes there’s a plan linked to it. A plan conceptually is any kind of legal service that a legal professional offers. So a professional account typically has a set of plans which describe what services the legal professional offers. For example, ability to e-file a Domestic Violence Protection Order would be an example.
Use case 1: Request service from law enforcement
In civil protection orders (called restraining orders in some states), the law enforcement agencies serve the other party. For cases created outside of LegalAtoms there was a need to allow creating a LegalAtoms case using PDF documents.
This capability is available to both
- Petitioner (or just regular accounts)
- Professionals (including clerks)
An email notification is sent to the account creating the case.
Use case 2 Allow Professionals to Self-request a plan
In some jurisdictions the law enforcement agencies use LegalAtoms but the clerks do not. In such situations, Law Enforcement needs to upload PDF themselves which this feature allows.
- We still need to adjust the email notification
- In future if there are fees involved then we need to special case a professional Item 1 USING THEIR OWN PLAN
Use case 3: Cases filed on paper, which a clerk need to bring to LegalAtoms
As filing is a service provided the clerk, the concept was extended to cover the situations involving cases existing as a set of PDF, that need to be added to LegalAtoms.
LegalAtoms will allow charging fees as well so that a clerk sitting at a desk can scan and upload and take the litigants credit card information for payment
Use case 4 : Offer a PDF documents based E-filing without going through questionnaires
In LegalAtoms we offered the public to e-file using a set of PDFs by adding E-File plans using the upload mechanism. This use case is very similar to the previous use-case. with case type and starting point of the case pre-selected.

Use case 5: Allow uploading after Diagnostic
We added capability to switch to uploading PDF after Diagnostic. “Create fresh case” seems to be a prototype that got launched
